A century after arriving accidentally in a shipment, cogongrass had become one of the Southeast’s most difficult invasive plants to contain. Its dense growth could crowd out native vegetation, while its dry leaves provided highly flammable fuel, creating problems for forests, wildlife habitat and land managers.
