For more than a decade, conservation crews worked to remove red shiner, an invasive fish that had established itself in the Virgin River and threatened recovery efforts for two endangered native species. Mechanical removal, including repeated seining, could clear fish from stretches of the river but could not provide a reliable solution for an established breeding population.
